Table and Report Generator Problem: Market Research companies, like many companies, are buried in data and need to make lots of Tables and Charts to report to their clients. The time involved in this task is an enormous cost both in terms of people-hours consumed and in timeliness of reports. Additional problems are also due to the ease of making data mistakes when re-keying the data into Tables or Charts. Solution: Reillyand, Inc. has developed a customizable application that almost entirely automates the the process. This permits no-rekeying of data, customizable formatting of tables and charts out of sequence of the underlying data, and the preparation of graphically designed Tables and Charts in a matter of seconds. Typically, the concept is to take raw text files, known as Tab Reports in the Market Research world, and programmatically converting these reports into a Database where they are stored. Then a user can select what to report and conceptually organize it in order of columns to show and the data is automatically retrieved from the database in that order and formatted into finished Tables or Charts. Typically the Tables are formatted in either Excel or Word, (Excel cannot display decimal indenting which Word does do quite well. Charts are prepared in Excel. All of these Tables and Charts can then be programmatically inserted into a PowerPoint presentation or printed directly from Excel or Word. This solution has not only increased the speed and accuracy of turnaround but has also permitted one client not to add an entire person to the payroll.
